Create a New Automated Interview Template

Automated interviews are a powerful way to screen candidates consistently and save hours of work. This guide shows you how to create a template with Cammio! Let's get started.

1. Start your new template

First, let's create the template that will hold your interview questions and settings.

  1. Navigate to the Templates section in the side menu.
  2. Click the New Template button at the bottom of the page. This opens the setup dialog.

2. Fill in the template details

Here, you'll set up the basic information for your automated interview.

  • Title: Name the interview, usually with the job role (e.g., "Marketing Manager"). You can make it more descriptive to assist your team in identifying the right template quickly, but remember that this title is visible to candidates, so keep it clear and professional.
  • Type: Be sure to select Automated Interview.
  • Scope: Choose between Closed (only invited candidates can access it) or Open (anyone with the link can access it).
  • Recruiter: This defaults to you, but you can assign it to a teammate if they are managing the role.
  • Reference ID: Use this for any internal job codes your company uses for tracking.
  • Language: Select the default language for the candidate's interface. This ensures a smooth experience for them.
  • Branding: Choose your company's branding to keep the experience consistent for candidates.
  • Disclaimer: Select an appropriate disclaimer from the list. This is important for compliance with data protection regulations. If you need to add new one, reach out to your Cammio Client Success Manager, who can upload it for you.
  • Disclaimer: Select the appropriate data protection disclaimer. This is a crucial step for compliance. If you need to add a new disclaimer, reach out to your Cammio Client Success Manager, who can upload it for you.
  • Redirect URL: Automatically send candidates to a specific page after they complete the interview.
  • From: This will typically be your recruitment email address.

Once you're done, move to the next step in the dialog to configure the interview experience.

3. Customize your template settings

Now you can fine-tune the rules and features of your automated interview.

  • Recordings: Set the default for how many attempts a candidate gets for each question. This can be further adjusted per question later on.
Tip: We recommend allowing at least 2 attempts. This gives great candidates who might be nervous a second chance to shine.
  • Answering time: Set a default recording time for answers. Make sure you give enough time for candidates to think and respond thoughtfully. You can still adjust this for each individual question later.
  • Invitation expires after: If you’re working with tight deadlines, you can set a time frame for how long the interview invitation is valid. Enter 0 if you don't want the invitation to expire.
  • Send reminder: Check this box to automatically send an Email and SMS reminder to candidates who haven't completed their interview. It’s a simple way to boost your completion rates.
  • Data retention: Define how long Cammio should store interview data, according to your company's privacy policy.
  • Private: Make the template visible only to you and admin users.
  • Default answer types: Give the candidates the option to answer a question in different ways: video, audio and/or text. This is a default template setting and can be adjusted per question later on.
  • Transcribe answers: Automatically generate a written transcript of video answers. This makes reviewing and sharing feedback much easier.
  • Hide Tips & Practice button: If you prefer candidates to dive straight into the interview without additional guidance or practice, select this option.

4. Enhancing candidate communication

Template communication settings

Communication can make all the difference in the recruitment experience. In the Communication tab, you can add custom text to the automated emails sent to candidates.

Explanation e-mail (the invitation):

This section allows you to insert additional text into the default invitation email template. Use this space to offer a warm welcome, provide context about the role, or give specific instructions for the automated interview. It's an excellent opportunity to infuse your company’s personality into the invitation.

Keep it concise and consider including:

  • The purpose of the interview
  • A brief description of the process
  • Encouragement to reach out with questions

Example snippet:

“We’re excited about the possibility of you joining our team and are eager to learn more about you through our simple automated interview process. Just click the link and follow the steps to start. If you have any questions, we’re here for you!”

Explanation afterwards (the thank you):

The thank you email is just as important—it's a sign of appreciation for the candidate's effort and interest. Here, you can add a message to the default thank you email template. Thank them for their time and briefly let them know what to expect next.

Some points to include:

  • Thanks for the time and effort
  • What they can expect after the interview
  • An open door for questions

Example snippet:

“Thank you for sharing your story with us! We’ll review your interview and get back to you soon. If you think of anything else you’d like us to know, feel free to get in touch.”

You’ve now customized a template with the essential details, tailored settings, and personal communication. Next, we’ll walk through the reviewing settings that will come into play once your candidates have submitted their interviews.

Setting the stage for reviewing candidates

Template reviewing settings

After your candidates have completed their interviews, it’s time for the crucial stage of reviewing their submissions. In the 'Reviewing' tab, you’ll find options to manage how you and your team evaluate candidates.

  • Review Mode: You can select between "Question based" and "One overall review". Question-based reviews allows you to rate each of the candidate's answers individually, while one overall review provides a single, holistic rating for the entire interview.
  • Reviewing Instructions: Here you can leave instructions for your team. Use this space to list key competencies to watch for, provide a rating guide, or share specific questions to consider during the review. This ensures everyone evaluates candidates consistently and fairly.

Click Save to lock in all your settings.

You're All Set! What's Next?

Your template is now saved and ready for further setup. A template is a container, the magic happens when you add questions and invite candidates.
