How Final Scores and Ratings are Calculated
When managing high-volume hiring pipelines, you need a quick and reliable way to identify your top applicants. Cammio automatically calculates an Average Score for every candidate based on the feedback submitted by your team.
Understanding the logic behind this calculation will help you trust the data and make confident, objective hiring decisions.
Scores are Based on Submitted Reviews
The most important thing to know is that only submitted reviews are calculated.
If you assign three Hiring Managers to a candidate, but only two have clicked Submit, the Average Score is calculated using only those two completed reviews. Pending evaluations do not count as "zeroes" and will not drag a candidate's score down.
You can always see how many reviews make up the current score by looking at the number in parentheses on your Completed Interviews dashboard (e.g., a score of 4.5 (2) means the average is 4.5 stars, based on 2 submitted reviews).
Overall Star Rating
If you set up your interview to use the One Overall Review method, the math is a straightforward average. The system simply adds up the total star ratings and divides them by the number of reviewers.
Example Scenario:
- Reviewer 1 gives the candidate 4 stars.
- Reviewer 2 gives the candidate 5 stars.
- Calculation: (4 + 5) = 9. Divided by 2 reviewers.
- Final Average Score: 4.5
Question-Based Scoring
If your team uses Question-Based Scoring to evaluate every answer separately, the calculation happens in two distinct steps to ensure fairness.
Step 1: Calculate the Individual Reviewer's Average. First, the system calculates an average score for each individual reviewer based on how they rated the specific criteria.
- Reviewer 1 gives the candidate a 4 for Question 1 and a 5 for Question 2. (Reviewer 1's Average: 4.5)
- Reviewer 2 gives the candidate a 3 for Question 1 and a 4 for Question 2. (Reviewer 2's Average: 3.5)
Step 2: Calculate the Team's Final Average. Next, the system takes the individual averages from Step 1 and combines them to create the final score.
- Calculation: (Reviewer 1's 4.5 + Reviewer 2's 3.5) = 8. Divided by 2 reviewers.
- Final Average Score: 4.0
